: Politics and Perspectives on Body, Space and Spectatorship

Brief Description of the Research


Sankar Venkateswaran explored the relationship between performers and spectators in theatre, dance, rituals and festivals in Japan. He presented Criminal Tribes Act at Studio 21 of Kyoto University of Art and Design, and Theatre Commons 19. He gave a workshop and talk at Tokyo University and visited Masayoshi Kanze for Noh workshops.

[Profile]Sankar Venkateswaran
Born in 1979. Sankar Venkateswaran studied at Calicut University School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur and Theatre Training and Research Programme presently Intercultural Theatre Institute in Singapore. He was the guest director at Munich Volkstheater, in the year 2016 and 2017, and directed Tage der Dunkelheit (Days of Darkness) and INDIKA. His productions with the company include Quick Death (New Delhi, 2007), Sahyande Makan- The Elephant Project (Trivandrum, 2008), Shogo Ohta痴 The Water Station (Bangalore,2011), which was re-created in 2016 with Kyoto University of Art & Design, and presented at Kyoto Experiment Autumn 2016. His latest piece being Criminal Tribes Act (Zurich, 2017) which has been staged at Zurich Theater Spektakel, and SPIELART Festival, Munich, among other cities.
